Dehairing produces the most top quality product possible by not only removing guard hairs from fiber that contains them, but also any small amount of debris or second cuts left in the fiber.

Alpaca is probably the most controversial fiber when it comes to de-hairing. Unfortunately, all aplaca have guard hair, and regardless of how fine the guard hairs are, de-hairing will benefit the end product greatly. We have done some firsts or blankets, especially cria, that did not require de-hairing. But if you would like yarn from your seconds, we highly recommend de-hairing them, unless you have a special project, as the yarn will be unwearable. 3rds are not worth de-hairing as they are so coarse and there is not enough down in them. As a rule we do not process 3rds by themselves as they will not stay together in the machines, but will process them if they are mixed with wool.
